We very much look forward to meeting you on Oral History Made Easy as you begin your journey to becoming an oral historian. Our intention is to support you from novice to accomplished oral historian through ‘Six Steps To Success Programme’ as smoothly, effectively and efficiently as possible. We ask therefore that you commit to the programme so you may benefit from the learning and experiential opportunities it presents. We estimate that you will need to spend around 3 hours per week comprising 1.5 hours in live sessions and 1.5 hours to reach the proficiency needed to practice as an oral historian. This will vary from person to person. Ethics and other themes related to research integrity, confidentiality and data protection will be covered in broad terms with specific examples given to highlight the importance of ethical practices in oral history. As the legislative framework varies from country to country, it is your responsibility as an oral history practioner to check the specific legal requirements in the individual country (jurisdiction) where the oral histories will be recorded before you record someone’s oral history. If you are in any doubt, always ensure you seek advice for professional oral organisations in your own country such as the British Oral History Society, the Oral History Association and the Oral History Network Of Ireland. We will support you at every stage in your oral history journey. Please do not ask for a refund until you are: 1. At least half way through the training course i.e 18th August 2024 for the summer intake AND 2 Have participated in both one one to one mentoring session with Dr Angela Maye-Banbury AND 3. Taken part in one student led group motivation session. I agree to engage with the training programme for its duration. I also agree to check the legislative and ethical requirements in the country where I will be conducting the oral histories. We look forward to working with you on Oral History Made Easy and wish you every success as you learn the knowledge, skills and attributes needed to become an oral historian.
